This product provides hydrochloric acid and cofactors for people who do not produce enough acid on their own. Often reflux can actually be due to too little acid, as opposed to too much. In that case, adding some acid to the stomach actually helps to close off the esophagus and prevent reflux.

High stress, old age, and poor adrenal function all are known to be associated with poor stomach acid production. Taking an acid blocker does help the symptoms of reflux, but we need stomach acid to properly digest our food. It is often worth it to do a trial of an acid product like this to see if it will relieve the symptoms before trying an acid blocker. This is only in the case of chronic reflux.
